【Column】 Changes in visual acuity

‘I could see 2.0 in the preoperative examination, but after the surgery I could only see 1.5!’
We sometimes receive the questions like, so today we are going to say something about it.

The visual acuity can fluctuate during a day because of the day’s physical condition, weather, eye fatigue, and so on.
Dry eyes, lack of sleep, poor physical condition, rainy or cloudy weather, long-time smartphone and computer work, all of these may cause the eye muscle become tired, when someone’s can achieve 2.0 during the preoperative examination but only 1.5 or 1.2 at the postoperative check-up.
Visual acuity values continues like 2.0, 1.5, 1.2, 1.0.
The values between these numbers can not be measures. It may seems a big difference between 2.0 and 1.5, but actually the Landolt rings in the eye check doesn’t present big difference, and it is often within the normal fluctuation.

In our clinic, we also measure the corrected visual acuity in the one-month postoperative check-up by putting the lens in, in order to know whether the myopia progressed again, so please don’t worry.
It is important to make your eyes relaxed, apply eye drops when your eyes are dry, always take some winks, refresh your mind and body to keep a good condition.
